Community Calendar #1
For years I worked in local cable TV, and I’d have to type in the bulletin board messages. What would go up there for people to read was occasionally hilarious. I used to sneak a few fake notices in to see if anyone was paying attention – and this was a natural extension of that idea. We did maybe 4 or 5 of these for video, but I always liked the idea of this format – Simple, yet elegant if you can find a decent twist to the ideas involved.

This is a genius concept. It’s a parody of a video format, so it’s built for video. It could surprise people just flicking through the channels, who could easily mistake it for a real community calendar, and do a double take. Nice surprise for them.
It requires no budget, no costumes, no sets, no props, and no actors. It’s easy to write. There’s no set up for the jokes, just one liners. And one could probably bang out dozens of them at a time.

I know – it is a good format, and one of those that can drop in anywhere.. it’s got the same concept as the Zucker Brothers movies.. throw a lot of things up there. If you didn’t like it, it’s over in a second. If not, you’re laughing your ass off.
I think we did like 4 of these for BENT!, I’ll have to track them down.. there were a few that still make me laugh because you don’t expect the direction they go in.
